Traffic regulation spelt out for Sangai Fest, President's visit

In connection with the Manipur Sangai Festival 2017 and the President of India's visit, certain traffic regulations have been put in place in and around Imphal city.
Speaking to media persons at his Secretariat office today, Transport Commissioner M Lakshmikumar who is also chairman of the festival's transport sub-committee said that certain traffic regulations have been worked out in consultation with Transport Department, MAHUD, IMC, Traffic Control Police and SPs of Imphal West and Imphal East districts.
The road running in front of Hapta Kangjeibung would be divided into three lanes.
The eastern most lane would be used for emergency purposes, the middle one for
normal vehicles and the western lane reserved for pedestrians, Lakshmikumar said.
Vehicles which do not possess passes would not be allowed to proceed toward Hapta Kangjeibung from Thangal General statue, Tribal Market, Bheigo Saw Mill, Govindajee Crossing and Heirikhagok Crossing.
There will be one-way traffic through Sanjenthong from the West to the East; vehicular movement from Thangal General statue toward Sanjenthong and Andro Parking would be prohibited and vehicles coming from the direction of Thumbuthong may move from Heirikhagok Makhong to Thangapat.
Heavy vehicles coming from the South would not be allowed to proceed beyond Singjamei but passenger vehicles would be allowed up to Moirangkhom.
Similar restrictions would be imposed at North AOC too but passenger vehicles may take a detour from Khoyathong traffic point (in front of LIC office) .
Vehicles should also take detour from Chingmeirong toward Lamlong or Thangmeiband.
Vehicles moving on Kongba road should take detour from Kongba junction toward Ayangpalli or Kongba Nandeibam Leikai and further toward Singjamei.
Vehicles moving on Wangkhei road should take detour from Yonglan Leirak junction toward Porompat or Ayangpalli.
There would be no restriction on movement of vehicles from Porompat traffic point to Lamlong or Kongba, said the Transport Commissioner.
Lamyanba Shanglen and City Convention Centre would be used as parking lots of WIPs and VIPs.
Officials and security escorts should park their vehicles inside CC Hr Sec School campus.
Visitors may park their vehicles at Andro Parking, Wangkhei Girls High School, Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, Ramji Prabhu School, WAL United Youth Club and Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi.
Parking fees have been fixed at Rs 20 for two-wheelers and Rs 50 for four-wheelers.
For Lamboi Khongnangkhong, VIPs would park their vehicles at the nearby High School ground while visitors may park their vehicles at UFLC ground.
For Khuman Lampak Sports complex, the front section of the Indoor Stadium has been reserved as parking space for all types of vehicles.
For Moirang, parking space has been arranged at Moirang Municipal Council's gymnasium.
Similar parking space has been arranged at the foot of Sendra hillock, he added.
