Imphal, April 13 2015 :
Pushing for its demands, a 24-hour State wide general strike beginning midnight of April 14 has been announced by the All Manipur VDF Welfare Association on Monday.
Another two-day economic blockade is likely follow it.
The association of some 10,500 VDF personnel said in a statement that the State Government has totally ignored its demands for which it launched a sustained agitation since March 20 .
It also threatened to enforce another 48-hour economic blockade along all National Highways connecting Manipur from April 15 midnight if the Government fails to respond even after the proposed 24-hour strike.
It said religious and medical activities, media and essential and emergency services will not be covered by the general strike.
But it appealed to all to suspend plying of vehicles, opening of shops and attending Government establishments during the strike.
The association appealed to all civil society groups, clubs, meira paibis and people to extend support to the proposed strike.
"Responsibility for any untoward incident that may take place during the course of the strike must be shouldered by the State Government," it warned.
In a separate statement the All Manipur VDF Guardians Association has said it has all prepared to back the 24-hour strike call given by the VDF association of the nine districts.
