Jiribam, January 28 2018: Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), Manipur, has claimed that it has found 1500 fake voters in Jiribam police record.

Speaking to media persons at Jirilma Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (JIMPAL) office at Jiribam Babupara, JCILPS convenor Arjun Telheiba said that following the alleged obstruction posed by Jiribam MLA Ashab Uddin against the verification drive carried out by the district police, a team of JCILPS went to Jiribam yesterday and met the DC as well as the district SP, two Adhyakshas and all the CSOs concerned.

Arjun Telheiba claimed that during the visit, the JCILPS team was able to find 1500 fake voters in the police record.

The names of people who died around 20 to 30 years ago, were still in the voter list.

The lists still contained the names of people who had shifted or married to other places outside the State in Sonapur GP of Jiribam district as well as the names of many individuals whose backgrounds and details are unclear at best, he said.

On the other hand, Arjun Telheiba said that JCILPS is still not clear about the clarification issued by Jiribam MLA Ashab Uddin, which urged the police to carry out the verification drive after providing prior information to the people.

Questioning the logic behind the appeal to provide prior information about verification drives by police in suspected areas, the JCILPS convenor expressed disappointment with the MLA for making claims/ suggestions which seem to be against the interest of the people of Manipur.

JCILPS has not backed down on its demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit system in the State for the protection of the indigenous people.

The association will raise various slogans and submit memoranda to the State Government during the coming Assembly session, he added.

On the other hand, chairman of JCILPS Jiribam branch, M Hemanta Mangang said that the steps taken up by JCILPS does not infringe upon the rights granted to the people in a democracy and appealed to all those concerned not to spread any rumour or make any assumptions which may create tension between various communities.

JCILPS co-convenors Ng Deva Meitei, Md Kheiruddin Shah Moijing Mayum, N Brojen, JCILPS Manipur, executive member, W Rabi, JCILPS Jiribam branch co-convenor, Y Sanjiv Singh, president, KSA, Jiribam district council, L Bonspn Singh, president, MSF district committee Jiribam, A Rajiv Singh, vice-president, AJUCA, M Premchandra Singh, president JIMPAL, H Mema Devi, joint secretary AJMP, Khumalei Devi, president, JIMWAK, Th Jini Devi and advisor, JLKL, H Dhoni were also present at the meet.
