IPPI starts at Chandel, Senapati

As part of the Nation-wide programme,the first round of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization for Chandel district was inaugurated by the Chief Medical Officer Dr S Ibomcha Singh at Chandel District Hospital today.
District Immunization Officer Chandel Dr Ngoru Romy, Chairperson of the district Health Management Society Hb Kobor and a team of medical staff including doctors and nurses were present during the inaugural programme organized by the District Medical Department for administering one dose of oral polio vaccine to children belonging to 0-5 years of age.
Briefing media persons, CMO Dr S Ibomcha informed that 276 number of IPPI post/booth have been opened with a total target of 21128 children belonging to 0-5 years of age within the five blocks ie Chandel, Chakpikarong, Machi, Moreh and Tengnoupal.
He further said that there are 98965 population, 392 villages, 15927 household in the three blocks of Chandel, Chakpikarong and Machi.
ASHAs and Anganwadi workers are deputed at the booths with supervisors to monitor the work.
Home visit would start from tomorrow, he added.
Supervisor of the IPPI Tovir Ngoruh, who is also the District Community Mobilizer while talking to the media on the sidelines of her visits to the booths in Chandel block informed that 32 booths out of 55 booths in Chandel blocked have done the first round of Oral polio vaccination well.
IPPI at Senapati: Joining the rest of country in the midst of efforts to achieve certification from UN's World Health Organization (WHO) for complete eradication of Polio in India, the District Health Society and District Immunization Office Senapati launched an intensive polio immunization on Sunday.
Deputy Commissioner PK Jha, on Sunday kicked off Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization here at Senapati District Hospital campus with a symbolic two drops of polio for children between 0-5 years.
In the presence of CMO Pushpa Rai, Dr Loli Mao, DACS, medical officials and health workers, the DC administered the launching of the three days immunization into far flung areas of the District.
Speaking at the occasion, the DC stated that the drops of polio for children are drops of saving lives which will guarantee a healthy and prosperous life for any child.
India has not reported any polio cases in three years now and efforts are on to achieve certification from WHO said the DC.
The IAS officer who is also the Chairman of District NRHM and previously hold the post of State director for NRHM added that polio affected children faces physical disability and mental problems in the future, for which the Government is investing its best efforts to completely eradicate the menace.
He also appealed the parents to be aware of such immunization for benefits of their children.
Dr Loli said that many parents in the past were apprehensive about the immunization as it was believed to be a policy of birth control in the over populated country like India, however such impressive of the parents has changed he said.
Doctors, Nurses, ASHAs, felicitators, Anganwadi workers and medical teams would continue door to door immunization.
