PREPAK(Pro) pulls up extortionist

A man who allegedly extorted money in the name of the proscribed PREPAK(Pro) has been pulled up by the outfit.
The alleged extortionist identified as Kharibam Nimai (40) s/o Irabot of Mutum Phibou Mayai Leikai, Imphal West was paraded in front of media at a place in Bishnupur district today.
One spokesman of PREPAK(Pro) told the media that they called up Nimai on July 6 after receiving specific inputs.
Nimai was called up for questioning regarding an allegation that he served a monetary demand of Rs 3 lakh to one of his distant relatives in the name of the party, using a forged letterhead.
It was also learnt that Nimai had collected around Rs 60,000 from shops located around the temporary market shed of Khwairamband Keithel.
He collected a sum of Rs 60,500 including Rs 6000 from eight shops, Rs 21,000 from 21 shops, Rs 15,000 from 17 shops, Rs 14,000 from 14 shops and Rs 4500 from nine shops, said the spokesman.
PREPAK(Pro) has already announced that it has stopped collection of funds from the public and the party has been strictly upholding the same announcement, said the spokesman.
He also appealed to the public to be wary of such imposter extortionists.
It was said that the outfit reprimanded Nimai before he was handed over to his family.
