Imphal, September 06 2023:
The Communist Party Of India, Manipur State Council (CPI/MSC) has expressed its anguish over the failure of the double-engine BJP Government to end the conflict in Manipur even after four months.
In a release, CPI/MSC asserted that the failure of the State administration has forced the public to defend themselves against the attacks of Kuki militants armed with sophisticated weapons, causing many civilian
casualties.
The party asked why should the civilians come to the frontline to fight against the Kuki militants who are using bombs and sophisticated weapons.
"The State Government has the law and other mechanisms to maintain law & order and protect innocent civilians.
Moreover, it is the duty of the Security Forces to protect civilians from the Kuki militants who are breaking the law and attacking from their bunkers located in the hills", it added.
Questioning the inactivity of elected members and failure of security forces to stop the attacks and restore normalcy in Manipur even after 120 days, CPI said, "Elected members & bureaucrats should continue to rest in their 'Mondum montek' while the public prepare to enter the frontline to protect Manipur" .
Pointing out that the people are suffering due to the blockade imposed on National Highway 39 (No 2), CPI urged the State Government to initiate necessary measures to open the National Highway at the earliest and added that the Government should not wait for the public to take action.
CPI also appealed to the three MPs to not forget that they represent Manipur and speak at least 5 words to end the present conflict in the upcoming special session of the Parliament.
CPI further urged the Government to take steps to end poppy cultivation, maintain law & order both in the hills & valley, and implement NRC in Manipur instead of showing their might/ authority just against the "Press" .
