VDF men launch arms down stir

As warned earlier, the All Manipur VDF Employees' Welfare Association has announced an indefinite arms down strike from 6 am of May 15.The strike is in response to the Government's inaction on the long-standing demands of the Village Defence Force (VDF), said the association in a press release.
Notably, the All Manipur VDF Employees' Welfare Association has been urging the Government to address several of its grievances and extend the service period of the Village Defence Force which expired on March 31, 2025 .
The service period of the VDF is extended every year by the Government.
The association has been urging the Government to extend the service period for quite some time, and it had earlier warned that it would launch an indefinite "gun down, pen down" from May 15.Other key demands of the All Manipur VDF Employees' Welfare Association include implementation of Section 18 of the Police Act 1861 and increased pay for VDF personnel.
