RIMS hosts "Rite of Passage Ceremony" for graduating students

The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, held its "Rite of Passage Ceremony" Graduation Day 2025 at Jubilee Hall, RIMS, Imphal today celebrating the achievements of 370 graduates across various disciplines.
The event was graced by Prof Atul Goel, Director General of Health Services, Government of India and Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director of RIMS, Imphal as 1he chief guest & president respectively.
Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, Imphal; Prof Brogen Singh Akoijam, Dean (Academics), RIMS, Imphal; Dr B Praveen Reddy, Principal, Dental College, RIMS, Imphal; Prof H Jamuna Devi, Principal, College of Nursing, RIMS, Imphal; Prof Th Meera, Chairperson, Organizing Committee, faculty members, and parents of the graduates were also present at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Atul Goel emphasized that real learning begins in clinical practice, urging graduates to practice responsible prescription writing and warning against unnecessary medications influenced by the pharmaceutical industry.
He also highlighted the risks of improper drug use, rising healthcare costs, and the importance of preventive care.
Advocating for lifestyle modifications, Prof Atul Goel introduced "Brahmohurat" (waking before sunrise) as vital for health and criticized late-night habits and excessive screen use, calling for lifestyle education in medical training.
Prof G Sunil Kumar encouraged graduates to embrace compassion, integrity, dedication, and innovation in their medical careers.
He also stressed that medicine is about serving humanity and urged them to commit to lifelong learning and improvement in healthcare.
The event featured a lamp lighting ceremony, conferral of degrees, and a pledge to uphold ethical medical practice.
Outstanding students were honoured with gold medals and special awards for excellence in academics, research, and clinical practice.
The valedictorian reflected on their academic journey, expressing gratitude to mentors and loved ones.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks, group photos, and celebrations with family and friends.
