Imphal, October 23 2015 :
The All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers Union has appealed to the Kuki Peoples Liberation Front (KPLF) to relax their 10-days economic blockade for some days.
Speaking to media persons at their MG Avenue office here this afternoon, the union's general secretary Maimom Anil Meitei appealed to the outfit to relax the blockade for some days in the interest of transporters whose vehicles have broken down on the way and those who could not reach Imphal before the blockade came into force.
It is drivers/transporters who have been facing the maximum brunt whenever there is any blockade or bandh.
Hundreds of trucks now remain stranded along Imphal-Dimapur highway as well as Imphal-Jiribam highway due to the blockade.
Anil said that the union made this appeal in view of the immense hardships being encountered by stranded drivers and their helpers.
He also urged the Government to resolve the impasse through dialogue.
The 10-days economic blockade from October 21 to 31 was called in protest against the three Bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 .
The outfit also threatened to impose indefinite economic blockade if there is no positive response from the Government by October 31 .
