Ex-CM Biren inaugurates open gym

Imphal, May 19 2025: Former chief minister N Biren inaugurated an open gym established under the Chief Minister's Indigenous Martial Art Academy during the 29th foundation day celebration of the Kongpal Chanam Leikai Development Organisation (KCDO) at the club ground, on Monday.

Speaking at the event, Biren urged the public to make good use of the open gym facility and adopt a healthy lifestyle.

He appealed to KCDO to raise awareness among the public on the proper use of the gym.

Emphasising the importance of collective participation in development, he called for public support in development projects and advised against politicising such initiatives.

Floral tributes were paid to deceased members of KCDO in remembrance of their contributions to the community.

Former Kshetrigao MLA Nahakpam Indrajit attended as chief guest, while KCDO president Ksh Joychandra presided over the function.

Meitei Construction Pvt Ltd managing director Chingsubam Ashok Meitei, former KCDO general secretary Chakpram Dhanabir Singh, and IGNTU Manipur associate professor Dr Homen Thangjam were also present as guests of honour.

Addressing the gathering, Ksh Joychandra highlighted the vital role of local clubs in Meetei society, drawing a comparison to other communities in the state who have designated weekly or monthly meeting spaces.

He said that while the Meetei community may not have the same format, local Shinglups and clubs function as important platforms for promoting social welfare and community development, especially the local clubs.
