Imphal, March 15:
The JAC Against Acquisition of Land for Expansion and Extension of Imphal Airport has strongly condemned the alleged excesses committed by security forces on women protesting against the Government's land acquisition move at Ningombam yesterday.
An emergency meeting of the JAC held today decried the alleged strong retributive action of security forces which resulted in injuries to several protesters.
In a press release, the JAC also accused the security forces of using foul and indecent words against the protesters.
It further asserted that the State Government has been acting on the whim of the Central Government without taking into account of the interest and concerns of the local people.
It also called upon all to make a thorough study of the possible merits and demerits of the Government's land acquisition move for expansion of Imphal airport.
The JAC denounced the statement of opposition leader Radhabinod Koijam who reportedly misinterpreted the people's movement against the airport expansion move as demanding greater compensation and other benefits.
It further reiterated that the JAC and people will fight against the airport expansion move unto last for their right to live even though the Government seems to be determined to go ahead with its plan with all means fair or foul.
