Mental health issues likely among college students: Dr RK Lenin

Dr RK Lenin, founder, Share and Care (SAC), has informed that increased prevalence of mental health conditions are found among college going students.
He was speaking at the 'College Mental Health Programme' jointly organised by Share and Care (SAC) Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal and IQAC, Imphal College at the seminar hall of the College today.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr RK Lenin said that college years mark the end of adolescence and the beginning of adulthood wherein a person is faced with questions about their career path and some even starting their married life, said Dr RK Lenin.
Academic pressure, impulsive thoughts and challenges in their love lives may lead to development of mental health issues.
'The likelihood of suicide increases amongst youths between the ages of 15 and 24 .
Use of intoxicants is also high during this period.
In view of these challenges, efforts should be made to improve their mental health', said Dr RK Lenin.
Other notable dignitaries present at the event include Share and Care brand ambassador Tonthoi, Imphal College Principal Professor M Chandra and Imphal College Teachers Association president Dr L Ibungo.
