Imphal, January 11 2020:
The Manipur Kabui Union has contended that Gaan-Ngai is an important festival of the Kabui community and it would not be right to associate the term 'Zeliangrong' with the said festival.
Speaking to media persons at Keishamthong Kabui Khul community hall today, president of Manipur Kabui Union Dr K Heera Kabui conveyed that Gaan-Ngai is a festival of the Kabuis and appealed to whoever concerned to refrain from association the term Zeliangrong with the festival in any way.
Zeliangrong refers to an organisation, like AMUCO and UCM.
As such, it will not be the right decision to associate the term with Gaan-Ngai festival, he claimed.
Gaan-Ngai is celebrated by the Kabui community since ancient times and whenever people of other communities hear the sound Kabui traditional drum, they automatically know that celebration/festivities of the Kabui community has begun.
Kabui Gaan-Ngai acts as a bridge for bringing unity among the communities residing in the region.
All are invited in this festival without any discrimination based on caste and religion, he explained.
Dr K Heera Kabui then urged all, specially learned experts and spokespersons etc, to refrain from calling Gaan-Ngai as Zeliangrong Gaan-Ngai.
He further appealed to the authorities to refrain from associating the term Zeliangrong with Gaan Ngai while conveying festival wishes to the people, adding that all of these have led to only confusion among the people.
Appealing to all the people to support the Kabui community, which is one of the indigenous communities of the State, he opined that if by any chance, the Kabui community disappears, it will be a huge loss for the State.
