Insufficient Anganwadi centres at Heirok

Although there are supposed to be 60 Anganwadi centres in Heirok, Thoubal district, only 7 centres were established while the remaining centres were established at different places including community halls, private residence etc .
This was found during an inspection conducted by Friends In Need Society (FINE Society), Heirok part II during a special drive to different Anganwadi centres of Heirok .
A team of FINE Society visited many Anganwadi centres at Heirok part I, II and III on June 20 and found that out of the 60 Anganwadi centres, centres for only seven were opened and some of the established centres were converted into the homes of those who run the Centres, reports our correspondent .

Supervisor of an Anganwadi centre of Heirok part II, S Bhanubati told the team that there are supposed to be 35 Anganwadi centres in the area but the State Government has established only 3 .
Stating the importance of establishing Anganwadi centres, she said that Anganwadi Centres will allow children from the age of 3-6 to get to the non-formal education and expose them to an environment of friendship, cleanliness and especially the basic step of schooling .
Bhanubati added that since there are insufficient Anganwadi centres in the area, the workers and helpers had to open the centre by borrowing the community halls and other empty spaces .
She sought the attention of the concerned authority to look into the matter and urged the people of Heirok to cooperate and support all the Anganwadi Centres in the State .
Meanwhile, Another supervisor S Aruni highlighted the similar issue of lack Anganwadi centres at Heirok part I and III .
Speaking to media persons, FINE Society president Kh Nimai stated that the lack of sufficient Anganwadi centres in Heirok area is disappointing and added that the matter will be addressed to the local MLA and the concerned authority to initiate necessary measures to solve the matter at the earliest .
General secretary Kh Romio, vice-president M Doren and other members of FINE Society were present at the inspection tour.
