Piped water soon : Biren CM stresses need for rehab centres

Stating that an intensive drive has been launched against intoxicating substances in the interest of the State's future, Chief Minister N Biren rued that the menace of substance abuse and its disastrous impacts on youngsters have been rising in the State .
The Chief Minister also stated that his Government would give priority to enhancing connectivity and providing piped water to the masses in preparing the list of tasks to be completed within a stipulated time .
While underscoring the need to take up necessary measures in order to accommodate all drugs addicts in rehabilitation centres, the Chief Minister called upon NGOs to work sincerely so as to save drug addicts .
Biren was speaking at the 45th installation ceremony of the Rotary Club of Imphal at Rotary multi-service centre, Mantripukhri today where new office bearers of the Club were also elected for the term 2017-18 .
He opined that the recent spates of flood and landslide were the outcomes of human selfishness .
Biren who attended the ceremony as chief guest also gave away awards for Rotary Traffic Police of the Year, Rotary Nurse of the Year, Rotary Fireman of the Year, Meritorious Civil Constable of the Year, Rotary Journalist of the Year, Rotary Young Writer of the Year and Rotary Sports Person of the Year .
Late Oja Sagolsem Indramani Memorial Scholarship given to two best inmates of Dewlahland Children Home, Late Sagolsem Juge Memorial Rotary Fellowship given to four students of Takyel Blind School, annual scholarship given to popular singer Sunita Nepram, Late Sinam Tomchou Singh Memorial Hearing Aids and wheel-chairs were also distributed by the Chief Minister .
He stated that the humanitarian service rendered by the Rotary Club toward underprivileged sections can never be undermined .
There is no service greater than humanitarian service .
Along with initiating a number of projects, the new Government has been marching toward people oriented activities, claimed thew Chief Minister .
He assured all possible assistance from the side of the State Government toward different activities undertaken by Rotary Club for the poor and underprivileged sections .
He further suggested resumption of 'Heart to Heart' programme which has now been stalled .
The Chief Minister pledged assistance not only from the side of the State Government but also from his personal side .
"'The primary duty of we, politicians, is also service towards humanity.
The roles taken by Rotary Club in the State is known to all"', he continued .
Asserting that the new Government is trying to transform the old and corrupted system of administration, the Chief Minister also sought support and co-operation from the intellectuals and members of the club, who are known to be the elite section of the society .
He also decorated outgoing president L Manoranjan, outgoing secretary Ph Saratchandra, incoming president Ellendra Thoudam and incoming secretary Dr Muhindro with Rotary lapel pins.
