Richana Khumanthem, founder of design label, Khumanthem, represented Manipuri textile at Textiles India 2017, India's largest exhibition and conference on textiles held from June 30 to July 2 at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Gujarat .
IMG Reliance, the organising body of Lakme Fashion Week, held a mega fashion show on June 30 titled 'Symphony of Weaves' that featured 30 leading designers and artisans of India .
Richana Khumanthem was one of the designers who showcased in the show, alongside big names of the industry like Tarun Tahiliani, Manish Malhotra, Ritu Kumar, Gaurav Gupta, Rina Dhaka, Sabyasachi and Manish Arora .

The show presented the entire spectrum and evolution of Indian textiles rendered through an expertly curated presentation.
This included an international level show space for over 1200 guests with best in class infrastructure for set design, acoustics and fashion talent to offer a powerful experience of the textiles of our country.
The event was one of the few opportunities for the Indian fashion industry to converge and interface with the entire universe of the larger textile industry in one place including retailers, exporters, craftsmen, entrepreneurs as well leaders and esteemed guests from the Government, Foreign Textile delegations, press and other diverse stakeholders .
The event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 30.The fashion show was attended by Union Minister for Textiles, Smriti Irani, who later interacted with the designers and discussed the potential of handloom textiles.
When asked about her experience of sharing stage space with such prominent designers, Richana said ” It is an overwhelming experience.
These are designers we used to read about, and whose work we followed diligently in college.
To be sharing the same stage with them, my collection next to their’s is surreal.
To be able to represent the textiles of my State on such a huge platform is an honour.
