Imphal, May 22 2014 : A combined team of Imphal East district Police commandos and troops of 40 Assam Rifle arrested four cadres of Kuki National Front (N) during a cordon and search operation at Kamuching under Yairipok Police Station.

According to a reliable source, the search operation was conducted under the supervision of Singahajit Additional SP (Operation) Imphal East and led by officer In Charge Achouba with a team of 40 Assam Rifle personnel early today morning.

During the cordon and search operation, four cadres of KNF (N) were arrested by the combined team.

The source identified the arrested cadres as Ngamkhotinthang alias Thangneo (22) s/o Lunsin Kipgen of Govajang Village; Thangkhanlal Haokip alias Lalboi (21) s/o Hemthang Haokip of Khokon Village Saikul; Lunminlen Kipgen alias Lelen (19) s/o Paothang Kipgen of Bualjang Village Yaingangpokpi and Ngamminsem Haokip alias Sesem (19) s/o Seilet Haokip of Suangphel Village.

All the four arrested KNF (N) cadres are working under the command of SS Corporal Helen Kipgen of the KNF (N), the source said.

In an unrelated incident, an active cadre of the KYKL was arrested by the Imphal West District Police Commando unit from his house at Khonghampat Mayai Leikai on May 20 .

Identifying the arrested cadre as Leihaothabam Joychandra Sharma alias Boy (41) S/o (L) L Manisana Sharma, Police dept PRO's statement said the man was involved in extortion of money from Govt depts, employees, general public, contractors etc.

A mobile phone handset was seized from his possession.

In a follow up action, another KYKL active member was also arrested the same day from his residence at Awang Wabagai Makha Leikai, the PRO statement said while identifying the cadre as Phuritsabam Shyamo Singh (47) s/o Ph Sagor Singh.

Investigation revealed that he was also involved in extortion of money from various Govt depts.

A small arm, M20 with magazine and two mobile phone handsets were seized from him.

A case has been registered at Sekmai PS, it added.

Meanwhile, Commando unit of Bishnupur district police arrested a RPF/PLA cadre while conducting a search operation on May 21 in Nambol Phoijing Makha Leikai area, a press release of PRO, Police dept said.

One mobile phone handset with SIM card and a sum of Rs 3600 collected by the cadre from some schools of the district were recovered from the arrested cadre identified as Khundrakpam (O) Indu Devi (62) W/o Damu Singh of Nambol Phoijing Makha Leikai.

In a separate incident, commando unit of Bishnupur district police arrested a KCP-MC (Lamyanba Khuman) cadre namely Oinam Kuladaja alias Tangba Singh (25) S/o O Jilangamba of Keibul Chingmei Bamol Leikai while conducting a search operation at Moirang College Gate on May 21 evening.

One mobile handset with SIM card was recovered from his possession.

Investigation also revealed that he was collecting money from the public of Moirang areas to raise the outfit's fund, the PRO statement added.
