Imphal, May 22 2014 :
The Manipur Lok Ayukta Bill which would enable investigation into corruption charges has been sent to the President's office for his approval.
A well placed source informed that the Bill was passed by the State Assembly on February 27 this year after which it was submitted to the Governor for his approval.
As the Governor did not have authority to approve such Bills, the Governor reserved it in order to seek approval of the President.
For the Bill to be transformed into Act, it requires compliance with six Central Acts.
As such, only the President has the authority to approve the Bill.
Nonetheless, the Governor exercising powers conferred upon him by the Constitution reserved the Bill in order to take approval of the President.
Later, the Law Department sent the Bill to the President's office.
However, the President is yet to approve the Bill.
Notably, the Manipur Lok Ayukta Bill tabled in the State Assembly on February 27 was passed without any debate.
