Imphal, May 06 2025:
Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh (IAS) has asserted that schemes for renewable energy and other development projects should not be undertaken with only Assam in mind but the entire North East region.
He made the remark while speaking at the one-day seminar on 'Enhancing Collaborative Efforts of National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) and NE SNAs for Solar Energy Development in North Eastern States' held today at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong, Imphal.
The seminar was organised by the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) in collaboration with Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA).
Addressing the gathering, the Manipur Chief Secretary underscored the need for North Eastern States to unite and seek the attention of Central leaders to ensure that NE states get full advantage of centrally sponsored schemes and projects.
There is a need to amend the established guidelines of such schemes so that the benefits will reach other North Eastern States aside from Assam, said the Chief Secretary.
Highlighting power issues prevalent in the NE States, he said that grid power alone cannot supply electricity to these places, especially in the hilly areas.
'Micro grids should be installed in different hill areas of Manipur.
In this regard, the renewable energy movement sweeping over the Nation will be a boon for NE States', added the Chief Secretary.
Saying that a regional centre for renewable energy should be set up in the NE States, he said that the required land will alloted if such a centre will be established in Manipur.
He also emphasized the need for the Central Government to plan renewable energy projects with the North Eastern States in consideration.
The seminar was attended by Dr Kuldeep Rana, Scientist E, MNRE; Dr Shailesh KC, IAS, Commissioner (Power); Dr Md Rihan, DG, NISE and N Praveen, IAS, Director, MANIREDA .
