Manipur Forest Department marks International Day of Forests with foot rallies, tree plantation drives

To commemorate the International Day of Forests, Manipur Forest Department organised foot rallies and tree plantation drives across the State to raise awareness about the vital role forests play in sustaining life and to encourage youth participation in conservation efforts.
BISHNUPUR
In observance of International Day of Forests, Deputy Commissioner Bishnupur, Lourembam Bikram, today flagged off a foot rally organized by the Bishnupur Forest Division.
The rally commenced from the Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur.
Students of three different schools from the district participated in the rally.
The rally aimed at raising awareness about the importance of forest conservation.
It featured banners with the message, "Save the Lungs of Earth, Plant and Protect Trees for Future Generations" .
Participants marched through Bishnupur Bazar before concluding at the Bishnupur Forest Division Office.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Toijam Opendro, Divisional Forest Officer, Waikhom Romabai, Zonal Education Officer, Atom Gunamani, and other districtlevel officers of Bishnupur were present at the flag off ceremony.
Following the rally, an awareness program was held at the Bishnupur Forest Division Office.
It mainly focussed on the crucial need to conserve forests.
The program emphasized the wide-ranging benefits of forests, including their role in providing food, fuel, income, and employment, as well as supporting soil fertility, protecting water resources, and offering habitats for biodiversity.
UKHRUL
The Ukhrul Forest Division as a run up programme for the observation of International Day of Forests organised a "Foot rally - Run for Forest" under the theme "Forest & Food" at Ukhrul town.
The rally highlights the invaluable contribution of forests to food security, nutrition and livelihoods of many people especially the forest dependent communities.
The foot rally was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Ukhrul, Ashish Das from the DC office complex and later converged at Ukhrul Forest Office.
Placards which read "Conserve Forest-Conserve our food", "Protect Ukhrul forest," "Protect our heritage Forest: The lungs of our planet," "Plant a tree, make a difference" were used during the rally.
The rally was participated by DLOs including CEO/ADC Ukhrul David Kashungnao, ADM Polly Makan, SDOs Dinringam Kamei, Duna Duo, Roland Ningshen, Ngamreiwung Luithui, ZEO Thaimei Badan, PO DRDA Zulfiqar Ali Shah and GM NHIDCL.
The Foot Rally was organized by the Ukhrul Forest Division in collaboration with Ukhrul/Hunphun Katamnao Long.
THOUBAL
In connection with the observance of "International Day of Forests, 2025", Thoubal Forest Division in collaboration with Sofia English School, Thoubal Wangmataba organised a tree plantation drive cum awareness programme at Sofia English School, Thoubal.
The Awareness programme was held under the theme "Save the Lungs of Earth Plant & Protect Trees for Future Generation" and "Forest & Food".
As part of the programme, DFO Thoubal, Dr L Jeecelee and Sofia English School headmaster, AK Jugeshwar planted several tree saplings at the school campus.
CHANDEL
Emphasizing the importance of forest conservation, a foot rally was organised today by the Divisional Forest Officer, Chandel as part of the International Day of Forests observance.
The rally was participated by around 400 students of three different schools and was aimed at raising awareness about the importance of forest conservation.
The participants marched through Chandel Bazar before concluding at Chandel Women Market Complex.
ADC, Chandel, Md Firoz Khan (MCS), Dr N Munal Meitei, DFO Chandel and Meshil Saka, SDC, Chandel were present at the flag off ceremony.
As part of the programme, several tree saplings were planted at DC Complex and Chandel Women's Market Complex by the students.
