Thoubal, May 16 2024:
A public meeting was convened at Keibung Community Hall today in connection with the abduction case at Lilong which left one dead and another severely injured.
A large number of locals and representatives of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) attended the public meeting organised by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the incident.
The gathering resolved to submit a memorandum listing a charter of demands to the Chief Minister and local MLA.
The demands included awarding stringent punishments to all involved in the crime, formation of an inquiry committee with a retired judge as the chairman and assurance to provide legal protection to the downtrodden and minority community.
The attendees also unanimously decided not to claim the body of the deceased until the Government assures that such incident will not recur.
The JAC also cautioned that intense agitation will be carried out along with the support from the public if the demands are not fulfilled at the earliest.
Lastly the JAC also sought support and cooperation from all in its initiatives to ensure justice is delivered.
