Imphal, April 08 2025: With the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) expanding across every sector, the accompanying career scope is only increasing--creating new job opportunities for young and talented individuals, says Manipur University's Head of Department of Computer Science, Dr Khumukcham Robindro.

Speaking to this reporter, Dr Robindro talked about AI and the career scope it has for students.

There is a rising fear of AI bringing massive cuts in the workforce worldwide, but there will also be new job opportunities arising out of it, especially in the AI development sector, says Dr Robindro.

AI applications are being incorporated in sectors including health, finance and agriculture.

This integration of AI will also create new job opportunities in these sectors for persons who have knowledge of the applications, he says.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has "so much" to offer.

It is being incorporated in every field.

Young students must join this revolution and become part of it, he says.

"Artificial Intelligence (AI) is bringing a revolution and we must become part of it.

Otherwise, we will be left behind in terms of development," Dr Robindro says.

He says, Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers diverse opportunities, including roles like AI Specialist/Developer, Data Scientist, AI Researcher, Machine Learning Engineer, AI Product Manager, Business Intelligence (BI) Developer etc.

The demand for AI developers globally in many sectors including health and finance is very high.

Rather than being end users, students must explore and become developers themselves, he says.

"Our young students must not feel content being end users and stay as consumers only.

They must become developers themselves.

Our students are talented.

If they enter the field, they may develop AI applications like ChatGPT, Gemini and many others," says Dr Robindro.

He says there are already many persons from Manipur who are working in the field in IITs, NITs and many foreign companies.

Career prospects in AI

1) AI Engineer: Develops and implements AI systems and applications.
Require skills: Strong programming, software development, data science, and data engineering skills.

2) Machine Learning Engineer: Designs, builds, and maintains AI systems that learn from data.
Required skills: Expertise in machine learning algorithms and frameworks

3) Data Scientist: Analyses data to extract insights and inform decision-making
Required skills: Strong analytical, statistical, and programming skills

4) AI Researcher: Develops new AI algorithms and techniques
Required skills: Strong research, analytical, and programming skills

5) Robotics Engineer: Develops robotic applications for various industries
6) Software Engineer: Creates software for computers and applications, often used in AI development
7) Business Intelligence Developer: Provides actionable insights and supports decision-making within an organization
8) AI Product Manager: Similar to other product managers, but focused on AI products and features
9) Computer Vision Engineer: Focuses on enabling computers to "see" and interpret images and videos
10) Natural Language Processing (NLP) Engineer: Develops AI systems that understand and process human language.
