Imphal, February 05, 2009: TWO SECURITY men are among the 27 persons lodging in the jails of Manipur, most of them belong to banned outfits whose orders of detention under National Security Act have been confirmed by the Manipur home department, official said Thursday.

The state home department confirmed the detention of the said 27 persons on the recommendations made by the sittings of the Advisory Board on NSA chaired by the retired Justice Raj Kowah between January 5, 6, 27, 28 to February 1 last, official said.

Two women, 38-year old Mutum Premila Devi alias Ingel wife of late Ranjit of Khurai Thongam Leikai, Imphal east district, a member of the KCP (MC) activist and 22-year old Laishram Thabaton Devi alias Bembem, alias Leina alias Nongpoknganbi alias Samunganbi daughter of Mangi of Churachandpur Zou Veng, a member of the PREPAK also included in the detention under NSA, the source added.

The riflemen included in the detention of NSA for a period of 12 months were Thingujam Bijen (25) son of late Th Shamu of Bashikhong Mamang Leikai of Imphal east district (rifleman of 1st Manipur Rifles who was arrested by the security force as member of the Kangleipak Communists Party (MC) group) and Yumnam Dineshwor alias Ibomcha (33) son of Kalla of Kondompokpi Mamang Leikai, Imphal west (arrested as a member of the local gang) .

The have been charged of threatening and extortion of money from the general public, government employees, businessmen etc, the source said.

Two members of local gangs namely Maibam Nanao alias Bungo (25) son of Moti Singh of Uripok Bachaspati Leikai, Imphal west and Thokchom Toni (27) son of late Babumacha of Naoremthong Takhellambam Leikai, Imphal west district were also included in the confirmation for detention under NSA, the source said.

They were charged of carrying out extortion of money by posing as members of the different militant group from the people.

Among the cadres of the banned outfits, eight are activists of KCP (MC), five each of People Liberation Army (PLA) and PREPAK (People Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak) and one UNLF (United National Liberation Front).

Others belong to smaller militant groups operating in both valley and hill areas of the state.

The lone UNLF activists named Thokchom Rajen alias Nokpa, 44 years old is the oldest among the 27 detenues while with 20 year Arabam Naobi alias Arunjit son of Brojen of Yairipok Poiroukhonjin of Thoubal.

The 27 persons have been lodging in Jails in Manipur after they were apprehended by the security forces and police and ordered detention under NSA by district magistrates citing that there is potential danger carrying continuing their anti-social activities after secure release from jail.
