Efforts on to upgrade State museums : Jayantakumar

Noting the significance of museum which is a key source of history and civilisation, Art & Culture Minister L Jayantakumar Singh said that the State Government is putting in efforts to upgrade the State Museum, Kangla Museum and INA Museum at Moirang .
He was addressing the 48th Foundation Day Celebration of the Manipur State Museum today under Department of Art & Culture.
Speaking as chief guest, Minister Jayantakumar asserted that the there is an apparent need to renovate and upgrade the museums in order to attract more tourists .

He said that the ongoing renovation of the three museums is done with limited resources in view of the ensuing Sangai Festival which is an important occasion for attracting tourists in the State .
He informed that funding agencies from outside the State have given nod to upgrade the three museums .
Museum plays an educative role in the society besides being a research centre, the Minister maintained.
Admitting that the old building of Manipur State Museum needs to be renovated, he said that for this necessary fund will be sanctioned in consultation with the Chief Minister .
He assured that the number of staff of the museum will be increased besides providing adequate security.
He also assured that the Government would look into the lack of manpower and equipment in the museum .
On the occasion, Minister Jayantakumar released a booklet of the post card belonging to the museum.
He also unveiled a statue of Maharaj Gambhir Singh and his army .
Later, he opened the Temporary Exhibition of Masterpieces of Manipur State Museum Collection .
Today's foundation day was also attended by Commissioner (Art & Culture) M Lakshmikumar Singh as president, MLA, Mayang Imphal A/C K Robindro Singh, MLA Sekmai A/C H Dingo Singh, Director (Art & Culture) Dr K Sushila Devi as guests of honour .
Officers and staffs of Manipur State Museum and Art & Culture Department were also present at the function.
