There is the need to analyse and monitor frequently whether the developmental works being taken up the Congress-led coalition SPF Government are to the liking of the people or not, MPCC president Gaikhangam has stated.
Addressing party workers on the occasion of 17th death anniversary of former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi which was observed as Anti-Terrorism Day at the conference hall of Congress Bhavan here today, Gaikhangam said to understand the pulse of the people and take them into confidence on the developmental works being taken up or to be taken up by the Government is essential.
It is also necessary to work together with the people to understand their opinions on the performance of the Congress party and what they expected from the Government, Gaikhangam said.
He also exhorted the Congress workers more particularly the Youth Congress to work towards ensure that welfare measures for the people initiated by Rajiv Gandhi during his left time but could not be completed are translated into action.
Toward this end, workers' conference of the block and district level would be facilitated every soon, he added.
The observance function held under the theme of 'Peace and harmony' was organised by Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee.
Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Dr S Budhichandra, Education Minister L Jayentakumar, MPCC vice president T Mangibabu were among the prominent party leaders who attended the function.
In his address, Speaker Dr Budhichandra described Rajiv Gandhi as a leader who dedicated his life to the cause of integrity of the Nation and committed to the welfare of its people.
Inspite of difference in opinions, he appealed to all the party workers to join hands and work for peace and development in Manipur taking inspiration from such a leader.
At the outset of the function, the party president led other party leaders and workers in paying homage and offering floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi.
The Anti-Terrorism Day was also observed by the State Government at the Secretariat South Block complex today with Revenue, Law & Legislative Affairs Minister Th Debendra Singh as chief guest.
Speaking at the occasion attended by many top civil and police officials, Debendra explained that Anti-Terrorism Day being observed throughout the country on May 21 every year in remembrance of former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi who was killed by a suicide bomber at Perembur in Tamil Nadu on this day in 1991 .
Describing Rajiv Gandhi as a dynamic leader who laid down his life in fighting against terrorism, Debendra recalled that terrorist activities in India was at its height when Rajiv Gandhi became the Prime Minister.
Yet with his diplomatic skills and statesmanship, Rajiv managed to suppress, terrorist movement in Punjab and Mizoram.
Towards the end of the function, the Minister administered oath of pledge to the gathering for fighting against the forces of disintegration unitedly and usher in peace and development in the region.
