Imphal, July 18 2019:
Protesting escalation in prices of essential commodities including petrol and diesel, and demanding an immediate roll back, Congress party staged a sit-in by the side of BT Road in front of Congress Bhavan here today.
The protest demonstration organised by Kisan Congress was participated by many well known Congress leaders including MPCC president Gaikhangam.
Speaking at the gathering, Gaikhangam stated that prices of all essential commodities have been soaring on account of economic mismanagement by the Government.
He demanded the Government to de-escalate prices of all essential commodities to reasonable rates in public interest.
With the price of non-local rice touching Rs 2600 per quintal while local rice is sold between Rs 50 and Rs 60 per Kg, people of the State are suffering extreme misery, Gaikhangam pointed out.
There is a huge gap between demand and supply and this must be plugged in immediately, he asserted.
Even though all the people have been suffering from inordinate hike in rice prices, ruling MLAs have been shuttling between Imphal and Delhi thereby leaving the State without any form of governance.
It's time the Government's internal differences are resolved and people's increasing grievances are addressed satisfactorily, he added.
