Injectible polio vaccine

Health and Family Welfare Dept today launched a two-pronged injectible polio vaccine � Fractional Inactivated Polio Virus Vaccine (FIPV) �for the first time in Manipur .
The first vaccination will be given when infants attained 6 weeks and the second dose at 14th weeks .
The launch programme was attended by Dr K Rajo, Director, Health and family Welfare Dept, Dr Salam, Addl Director, Dr Th Nandakishore, Dr Th Arun, Dr Somorendro, and Dr Aken .
In the function, Dr K Rajo said that Fractional Inactivated Polio Virus Vaccine (FIPV) must be administered in two doses to a child, the first one at 6 weeks and the second one at 14 weeks of age respectively without fail .
He added that the programme will continue till polio has been completely eradicated from Manipur.
This programme is being conducted for the first time in Manipur under the initiative of the Health and Family Welfare Dept in every district and will be conducted in a routine manner in the future as well.
If the said medicine is administered in a lesser dose, fever would be less.
This vaccine is one of the strongest protection against polio.
He asked the public to take advantage of the programme and help in eradicating polio from the face of the earth .
He further added that efforts are on to prevent vector borne diseases like Japanese encephalitis, dengue and flood malaria which is on the rise due to the ongoing flood.
But, injections for Japanese encephalitis must be administered only after consulting a doctor or a specialist .
He said that everyone under the age of 16 must get the polio vaccine at least once in their lifetime.
