Imphal, January 21 2024:
Stating that it is not the time to engage in politics or show love for the motherland from the comfort of a bed, the newly appointed co-ordinator of Co-ordina-ting Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) Somorendro Thokchom has urged all the MLAs to unite and work together to safeguard Manipur.
Somorendro is the president of League of Indigenous Peoples Upliftment (LIPUL) and he will be a coordinator of COCOMI for a period of one year.
Speaking to the media at Lamphel today, Somorendo continued that COCOMI is a grouping of differing organisations and it has been urging the Government of India to stop giving step- motherly treatment to the people of Manipur and see them as bonafide citizens of India.
He also said that COCOMI has been asking the Centre not to keep the State in a colonial status forever.
The silence of the Central Government even after State security personnel have been gunned down by heavily armed Kuki militants speaks volume, Somorendro stated.
Claiming that the violence in Manipur was triggered by external forces, he advised that Meiteis should not give any room which can divide the people but work under a common goal to protect Manipur.
