Imphal, August 08:
To discuss the political situation in the State subsequent to the withdrawal of support by the Left parties to the UPA Government at the Centre, coalition partner CPI has exerted pressure for holding a meeting of the Steering Committee of the SPF Government.
A meeting of the CPI State Secretariat today has entrusted the Steering Committee convenor and former Minister Dr M Nara to seek the permission of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh who is also the Committee chairman and convening a meeting very soon.
The meeting of the CPI State Secretariat took note of the fact that SPF Government has been formed under some definite common minimum programmes in the interest of installing a stable Government, protect the territorial integrity of Manipur, resolve the problem of insurgency through political dialogue and enhance developmental pace of the State.
Along with discussing these issues, the meeting resolved that the prevailing political situation in the State ought to be deliberated thoroughly in a meet ing of the Steering Committee.
According to information received by the press, National Secretary of CPI AB Bardhan and CPI MP from Assam Pramod Gogoi would be arriving at Imphal on September 5 to discuss and take stock of the political situation in the State.
Talking to The Sangai Express, senior CPI member and Health Minister P Parijat said there is no official stamp on the alleged demand of some Congress MLAs that CPI should be removed from the SPF Government.
If at all the partnership between the Congress and the CPI should be ended then it could be done honourably after a joint meeting of the Steering Committee or it can be dissolved.
It should not be construed as resignation from the post of the Minister but resignation of the party from the Government.
To speak in the manner of a political novice unofficially is nor good, Parijat added.
