Thoubal, April 08 2025:
The road section from Yairipok to Nongpok Keithelmanbi has been shut for 48 hours starting midnight today.
The shutdown has been imposed by Yairipok to Nongpok Keithelmanbi Road Development Organisation.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held at Yairipok Yambem Nongpok Ningthou Panthoibi Laibung Community hall today, the organisation's co-convenor, Premkumar Loukrakpam announced the 48 hr shutdown from the intervening night of April 8 and 9 .
The decision to shut the road was taken after repeated appeals of the public to repair the road were ignored by the authorities concerned, Premkumar said.
On April 2, the public, through a meeting, decided to restrict heavy vehicles from plying the road, and urged the authorities concerned to blacktop the road within 5 days.
Representations demanding the authorities to start repairing (blacktop) the road within 5 days were submitted to the Governor, Andro AC MLA and DC Imphal East, he said.
The 5 days given have passed without any steps taken up to repair the road and address the plight of the people.
Therefore, people have decided to shut the road for 48 hours starting at midnight today, Premkumar said.
The shutdown, however, will not affect services including medical, emergency, electricity, water and traditional and religious rituals.
All other activities on the road will be affected.
The road will remain shut to schools and colleges, he said.
