Imphal, February 29 2024:
Congress MLA K Ranjit has demanded the Government to table a report of the Manipur Legislative Assembly's Committee on Privileges and Ethics on the 10 Kuki MLAs so that the same can be discussed in the House and appropriate action can be initiated against the MLAs who have been demanding disintegration of Manipur.
Speaking during the zero hour of the State Assembly session today, Ranjit said that the remark "I did not want to listen" made by Chief Minister N Biren when certain points were raised regarding the 10 Kuki MLAs with due permission of the State Assembly has gone viral on social media.
Such remarks/words used by N Biren was unbecoming of a Chief Minister, Ranjit said.
He urged the House to see that the Chief Minister withdraw the particular remark.
Later, Speaker Th Satyabrata announced that the particular remark has been withdrawn from the proceedings of the House.
Saying that the primary responsibilities of all the 60 MLAs are protection of people's life, properties and the interest of the State, the Congress MLA asserted that Chin-Kuki-Zo people including the 10 MLAs have been taking big roles in the 10 months old violent conflict.
He urged the Government to table a report of the Committee on Privileges and Ethics in the House so that appropriate action can be taken up against the 10 MLAs.
Whether a report of the Committee on Privileges and Ethics should be tabled or not is in the hands of the Speaker and the House, Ranjit added.
Citing media reports about police commandos laying down arms in the five valley districts, Kh Joykisan asserted that the State Assembly ought to appreciate the contributions and responsibilities of commandos and State forces.
He urged the Chief Minister who is also in charge of the Home Department to find out the grievances of the commandos and resolve the matter at the earliest.
People have been demanding deployment of State forces in peripheral areas.
What would be the situation at Moreh and Chandel had there been no State forces, Joykisan wondered.
The State forces have been taking the central role in maintaining law and order in the State, Joykisan said.
If commandos leave the peripheral and vulnerable areas, there is a strong possibility of the 'other party' take advantage.
As such, the matter must be resolved as fast as possible, Joykisan.
He also appealed to all the people not to deride or belittle State forces in social media.
Congress MLA Okram Surjakumar said that the Government issued an order yesterday announcing imposition of curfew in Imphal West district.
A short time later, another order was issued that there was no curfew.
Saying that such contradictory orders created a lot of confusion to the public, Surjakumar appealed to the authorities concerned to issue necessary clarifications promptly so as to avoid confusion among the public.
Congress MLA K Meghachandra asked as to why microphones were switched off when important matters, call attention motions or point of orders were raised in the House.
Asking who was controlling the microphones, Meghachandra sought a ruling from the Speaker
on the matter.
