CM's 'Taningde' deleted from House records

Imphal, February 29 2024: The informal word 'Taningde' used by chief minister N Biren Singh while responding to a point raised by Congress MLA K Ranjit on the first day of the Sth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly on Wednesday has been deleted from the proceedings of the House.

With the.

approval of the Speaker, K Ranjit had on Wednesday drew attention of the House that 10 Kuki MLAs including two ministers should be held responsible for the present violence in Manipur.

Responding to the point, chief minister Biren said that he does not want to listen to unanswerable points raised and even went to the extent of using the word 'Taningde', which indeed was un-parliamentary in the House.

Raising the matter, MLA Ranjit said the point he raised in the House on Wednesday was with the approval of the speaker and he could not listen properly to what the Leader of the House said as he was speaking to the speaker face-to-face.

However, what the Leader of the House exactly said went viral on social media and even used the word 'Taningde'.

A local daily also reported about keeping my microphone in mute mode while raising the point in the House, Ranjit said and expressed regret over use of informal word in the House considered as the temple for democracy.

According to K Ranjit, he simply demanded tabling of the Privilege and Ethics Committee report against 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs, who attempted to disintegrate the state despite taking oath to safeguard the land, in the House for discussion.

He also asked if there is any rule that such matter could not be raised in the House and who will raise such matters when even elected members are disallowed to raise such issues.

After hearing MLA Ranjit's point, N Biren called for forgiving when committing mistake while speaking in the House.

Accordingly, Speaker ruled that the informal word 'Taningde' used by Leader of the House has been removed from the proceedings of the House.

Later in the Zero Hour, Opposition MLA K Meghachandra drew attention of the House on who controls microphone installed in the House and asked if keeping microphone in mute mode when a member is speaking does amount to breaching privilege of the said member.

It is the speaker who has to give ruling for a member to speak or not in the House and silencing the microphone is akin to humiliation of the member, he said and demanded a ruling from the speaker.
