Imphal, February 29 2024:
Common Service Centre/Village Level Entrepreneurs (CSC/VLEs) Society, Churachandpur condemned that the shutdown of Fibre to the Home (FTTH) services initiated by the state government.
In a statement, the Society pointed out that the abrupt action not only disrupted essential connectivity but has also severely impacted the livelihoods of countless CSCs and VLEs across the district.
The CSC/VLEs played a crucial role in facilitating Digital India services, ranging from banking transactions to Aadhaar services, e-district services, electric bill payments, and various other services.
Their tireless efforts have been instrumental in bridging the digital divide and bringing essential services to the doorsteps of citizens, particularly in rural and remote areas.
The sudden cessation of FTTH services not only disrupts the smooth operation of these services but also jeopardises the sustenance of the CSC VLEs who rely on them for their livelihood.
The unforeseen shutdown has plunged them into uncertainty and financial distress, with no alternative means of sustaining their livelihood, the Society highlighted.
Urging authorities to reconsider the decision and take immediate steps to restore FTTH services without further delay, the release maintained that continuity of these services is not only a matter of convenience but a fundamental necessity for the realisation of Digital India's vision.
All CSC/VLEs in the district will be forced to launch democratic protest if the authorities fail to restore FTTH Services in the district, it cautioned.
