Senapati, August 16 2023:
All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has expressed strong dissatisfaction towards the eight Naga MLAs, who endorsed a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister seeking protection of the state's territory among others.
In a press release, ANSAM conveyed its surprise and disappointment upon discovering the signatures of the eight Naga legislators on a representation to the Prime Minister, alongside other MLAs.
The student body expressed concern and resentment over this move by the Naga MLAs, which it alleges to have undermined the stance of Nagas.
The statement termed this development as unfortunate, considering it originates from elected representatives of the people.
ANSAM highlighted that while the Naga populace in the state rallies behind a Naga Peoples Rally urging the PM to resolve the long-standing Indo-Naga political issue based on the August 3, 2015 Framework Agreement, the activities of Naga representatives is disheartening.
ANSAM underscored that Naga leaders should exercise prudence and responsibility in their actions, considering the critical juncture and the aspirations of the Naga people to achieve peaceful co-existence between the Nagas and India.
Given the imperative of safeguarding ancestral lands amidst uncertainties and threats, ANSAM asserted that a divided house among the Nagas would be counterproductive.
The statement implored all Naga leaders to work collectively with coordination and cooperation to counter external threats and realise the shared objectives of the Naga community.
