Meitei Cheingak to aid families of martyrs

Imphal, September 14 2023: With the primary objective of rendering sup port to volunteers guarding villages in the periphery areas, like-minded youth from different parts of the state have formed a body called 'Meitei Cheingak' and it is all set to provide financial assistance to families of martyred volunteers.

Regarding the newly floated body, Meitei Cheingak president Yumlembam Yaiphaba told media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday that the body formed by like-minded youth has no intention of staging protest or lead the people's movement.

Meitei Cheingak is not a pressure group but a support and solidarity group to lend support and encourage village volunteers at the frontlines, he said, adding that the group will lend support to village volunteers and those inflicted wound in the on-going conflict.

While informing that the group will honour the martyred village volunteers and Langban Heisoi rituals for them will be performed at Naharup Makha Pat on September 16, Yaiphaba appealed to the people to join the ritual cum tribute ceremony.

He also announced Meitei Cheingak will start providing financial assistance amounting Rs 50,000 each to families of martyred village volunteers from September 21 .
