A Chitreshwar chosen for Manipur State Award for Literature

Aribam Chitreshwar Sharma has been chosen for conferring the prestigious Manipur State Award for Literature 2017-18, the highest official recognition for Manipuri literature.
Informing this in a press release, Directorate of Language Planning & Implementation said the Government decided to present the 9th Manipur State Award for Literature to the 79-year-old writer for his book "Apaiba Leichil" (Floating Clouds), a novel published in 2012 .
He was selected for the award by a board of eminent persons set up by the Government.
His novel was the unanimous choice of a three-member jury for the award among the three books of literature shortlisted by a 15-member panel of experts.
The release informed that the award is sponsored by the Government from the year 2008 with a view to honour the Manipuri writers and recognise their contributions to Manipuri literature.
The award is being given every year to the author of the most outstanding book, first published during the last five years.
At present, the award includes a plague, a citation, a shawl and a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh.
Aribam Chitreshwar Sharma hails from Khongman Mangjil.
He is one of the noted fiction writers of modern Manipuri literature.
He is also a recipient of several literary awards including Sahitya Akademi Award (1992) .
