DEO Kamjong highlights poll preparedness

Ukhrul, April 02 2024: District Election Officer (DEO)/Deputy Commissioner Kamjong Rangnamei Rang Peter briefed the media about the poll preparation for the smooth conduct of the ensuing 18th Lok Sabha Elections in the district.

The DEO stated that Kamjong District Election Office is going to conduct an election for the first time separately and will be going to polls on April 26 in its lone Assembly constituency 43-Phungyar AC.

The Phungyar AC has 34907 voters of which 730 are newly enrolled first time voters, 237 are people with Disabilities (PWD) and 629 are 80 years and above persons, he said.

According to him, the first-round training for polling personnel and EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) Randomisation for the ensuing 18th Lok Sabha Elections, 2024 has been successfully conducted while the second round of EVM Randomisation and the commissioning of EVMs will be done on April 5, 2024 .

The district has 78 polling stations, of which Natiyang polling station is totally deserted due to the prevailing conflict situation of the State.

The DEO further stated that there will be 14 pink polling stations (polling stations managed entirely by women) and one model polling station at Phungyar Higher Secondary School.

He went on to state that the 43/72 Chatric Khullen School will be shifted to Community hall after comprehensive consultation with political parties.

The District Election Office has identified five critical and five vulnerable polling stations of which Natiyang Polling Station is completely deserted.

He also highlighted the activities of the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral participation (SVEEP) program, which has been raising awareness on the importance of voting.

Under this programme, pamphlets translated in Tangkhul have been distributed and had also appointed the District Icon to have a larger impact.

Over 100 vehicles have been requisitioned for poll related duties, he said.

Regarding the security measures, two companies of BSF have already arrived at Kasom Khullen in Kamjong district while 15 sections of women security personnel and 6 companies of State Forces have been requested besides the 28 unarmed women and 96 unarmed male security personnel.

The DEO also highlighted the activities, preparedness and progress made by the Nodal Officers concerned in connection to the election.

The office has started distributing election duty certificates to the polling personnel and another round of training to be held tentatively on April 13.He also mentioned that steps have been taken to enforce the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) to ensure fairness among all parties.

The Kamjong DEO also urged the voters to come out and vote ethically so that the election is conducted peacefully and successfully in the district.
