Manipur add one gold in judo, settle for silver in men's football

Manipur's judokas ended their successful campaign with five gold, two silver and two bronze medals, while the men's football faltered at the final hurdle to settle for silver in the 37th National Games 2023 on Wednesday.
The state added a gold medal on the third and last day of judo competition to sign off campaign with nine medals that included five gold and two each of silver and bronze medals.
Manipur won the gold medal in the mixed team event courtesy of L Jagadish, Th Ningthemba H Birkamal, H Sobhashini, T Inunganbi and L Roshni.
The mixed team in judo is made up of three men and three women.
Over the course of the three-day judo competition, the state collected five gold medals via performances by L Jagadish (-66kg), L Sanatombi (-48kg), T Inunganbi Chanu (-70kg) and M Indubala (-78kg) in the individual events, and the mixed team.
Manipur also bagged two judo silver medals through L Monalish (-48kg) and H Sunibala (-63Kg), and two bronze through N Sarda (-52kg) and I Kalpana (-63kg).Meanwhile, Manipur settled for silver medal in men's football after suffering a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Services in their summit clash at the National Games 2023 Nehru Stadium, Goa, on Wednesday.
In a see-saw first-period battle, the squads locked 1-1 at halftime.
P Christopher Kamei put Services ahead in the 13th minute before Phi-jam Sanathoi Meetei made it all square for Manipur four minutes before the halftime whistle.
After the break, Services regained the lead when Soibam Abhinash Singh's attempted clearance went into his own net in the 62nd minute.
Manipur's chances of mounting a comeback were shattered even further after Rahul Ramakrishnan extended the lead for Services well into extra time.
Kerala claimed the bronze after beating Punjab 4 3 in a penalty shootout after regulation time ended in a goalless draw.
Manipur's medal stood at 81 on Wednesday as they occupied the sixth place in the medal standings with 30 gold, 22 silver and 29 bronze.
Maharashtra were well placed at the top with 75 gold, 67 silver and 77 bronze, followed by Services Sports Control Board (G-64, S-26, B-33), Haryana (G-58, S-51, B-67), Madhya Pradesh (G-35, S-34, B 38) and Karnataka (G-30, S-31, B-35) .
