Judoka Khumukcham Tombi Devi of Mayang Imphal has qualified for the 29th Olympic Games to be held at Beijing of China from August 8 to 24 .
Member of Parliament from Manipur's Inner Parliamentary Constituency Dr T Meinya, who is also the president of All Manipur Judo Association conveyed to mediapersons at his Khumbong residence today of Judo Federation of India confirming Tombi's qualification for the Olympics.
Kh Tombi is the second athlete from Manipur to qualify for the Beijing Games and will compete in the 48 kg division.
Tombi is at present at Yongin University, Korea along with her coach Kh Gunamani Meitei preparing for the Olympics.
The other qualifier is archer L Bombayla Devi.
Apart from top podium finishes in the national level competitions and medal winning performances/participation in international level tournaments, Kh Tombi claimed the yellow metal in the 12th Commonwealth Games held recently at Mauritius, with similar achievements at the 21st International Bosphorus Judo Tournament in Turkey in 2007, South Asian Judo Championship at Indore in 2005 and at the Rajiv Gandhi International Judo Championship held at Lucknow in 2004 .
The 26-year old daughter of Kh Munal is product of Mayai lambi Sports Academy and currently employed in the CRPF.
