Imphal, July 11:
With Manipur University cracking the whip and considering cancelling the affiliation of 8 Government colleges and 12 private colleges for failing to adhere to the norms of the UGC with regard to the strength of the students, a meeting of the Principals of the institutions has been convened on July 31 by the Government.
Simultaneously, the process of withdrawing courses in which no students or too little students have enrolled has started.
Speaking to The Sangai Express an official source said that Principal Secretary, Higher Education, P Saratchandra has called a meeting with all the Principals of the colleges which face the ignominy of their affiliation being cancelled on July 31 .
Since the last date of admission to these institutions has been extended to July 25, the meeting will study whether there has been any improvement in students' enrolment or not.
A final decision will be taken after discussing all aspects of the issue during the meeting, said the source.
The process of closing down courses in such institution in which no or too little students have enrolled has also started in phases, said the source.
On the other hand, the anomaly found in Delhi University, in which there was no provision for reservation for OBC students from Manipur has been rectified after the Principal Secretary for Higher Education personally went to Delhi and met the VC of DU, Registrar and other officials concerned, said the source further.
