Imphal, February 25 2014 :
N Gyanendrajit did the star turn for COSMO, Wangkhei as he pumped in eight goals to hand out a humiliating defeat to YCPA Chandel by a margin of 13 goals to one in the 2nd Y Rashmani Memorial Invitation Mens' Open 7-a-side Hockey tournament played at Y Rashmani ground, Kontha Ahallup today.
Completely outplaying the YCPA, Chandel team, the COSMO players scored at will and toyed around with their opponents throughout the match.
So dominating were the COSMO players that the most of the YCPA players did not even get the chance to touch the ball through out the match.
The floodgates opened as early as the 8th minute of the match, when Kh Rabikanta found himself well placed to sound the board.
Rabikanta followed this up with two more goals in the next two minutes to register a hattrick.
With the ball remaining inside the territory of YCPA, Chandel for most part of the match, N Gyanendrajit came into his elements and sounded the board eight times, including one from a penalty shot in the 36th minute.
The 8 goal blitzkrieg came in the 13th, 24th, 29th, 30th, 32nd, 33rd, 36th and 44th minute of the game.
M Khelen managed to score in between the 8 goal spree in the 26th minute.
RK Bikramjit scored in the 46th minute to complete the rout.
The consolation goal for YCPA came in the 6th minute through I John.
Ironically, though it was COSMO all the way in the match, it was the team from Chandel which earned more penalty corners with 7 while COSMO earned 5 penalty corners.
Earlier in the first match of the day, SSA Charangpat edged past Hockey Union, Lairikyengbam Leikai by a margin of 5 goals to 3 in an entertaining match.
K Ibungo of SSA put his team ahead in the 2nd minute of the match with Dhananjoy sounding the board in the 3rd minute to take an early two goals lead.
Stung by the early two goals, Hockey Union fought back hard and reduced the margin when N Jelel scored in the 9th minute.
This only spurred the SSA players as L Dipu found the target in the 19th minute and W Dhananjoy was at it again in the 22nd and 30th minute to help his team take a four goal lead.
The four goal lead however did not disheartened the Hockey Union players as they put more men in the attack to come back in the match and in the process scored through Th Kingson in the 47th minute and L Sitajoy in the 49th minute, but by then it was too little and too late, with SSA emerging the winner by 5 goals to 3 .
