Students assaulted, miss Boards exams

Three students including a girl were assaulted by VDF and commando personnel at Sugnu Keithel, Thoubal district inflicting serious injuries.
Because of the injuries, the students could not give their exams.
KT Rathina (17) d/o KT Thungam, B Moning Sisa (17) s/o Pastor HB Livingstone and his brother HB Chinani (19), all belonging to Toupokpi under Chakpikarong sub-division of Chandel district were seated inside a Bolero jeep along with Toupokpi Headmaster-in-charge HB Charningam at Sugnu Keithel awaiting delivery of sugar-cane juice after giving HSLC exam at Sugnu High School yesterday.
One VDF personnel came to them and said they could not park the vehicle there.
The same personnel came again after some minutes and threatened to kill all on board.
The next moment, the VDF personnel physically assaulted Rathina.

At this, Moning and Chinani returned blows to the VDF personnel.
On seeing the fight, some commando personnel rushed in and thrashed the boys before taking away Headmaster-in-charge Charningam.
All the three students were taken to Sugnu CHC but Rathina was referred to RIMS.
She suffered injuries on left side of chest, right buttock and left face.
Speaking to media persons at RIMS today, Rathina's family said that she has not yet regained her mental composure.
Rathina and Moning are class X students of Toupokpi High School and they are presently giving HSLC exam at Sugnu High School.
Rathina was in school uniform when she was assaulted and she is a girl, the parents said while questioning the motive behind the brutal assault.
Chinani is also giving Higher Secondary exam.
Because of the injuries inflicted in yesterday's assault, he could not give his Physics exam today.
Whereas Chinani and Moning are undergoing treatment at Sugnu CHC, Charningam is lodged in Sugnu police station.
Meanwhile, ATSUM has strongly condemned the assault on three students.
ATSUM president Emboi Serto demanded befitting action against all the security personnel involved in the assault apart from releasing Charningam without any condition.
He also sought immediate attention of the authority concerned to look into wayward activities of policemen and excesses committed by them.
