Vijay Merchant Trophy : Manipur post an innings and 259-run victory against Arunachal Pradesh

Manipur scripted an innings and 259-run victory against Arunachal Pradesh for the third victory in the ongoing Vijay Merchant Trophy 2023-24 Plate Group competition at DRIEMS Ground, Cuttack.
Manipur had skitled out Arunachal Pradesh, who won the toss and opted to bat first, for 44 runs within 18.4 overs in the first innings.
Resuming the day 2 of the three day tie at 269/5 in 74 overs, Manipur added another 117 runs in 24 overs to post a total of 386 runs in the first innings.

Arunachal Pradesh faltered yet again in the second innings and were bowled out for 83 runs in 34.1 overs and eventually Manipur sealed an innings and 259-run victory with a day left to spare.
The day saw Manipur's Thomsan and Danish, who were unbeaten on 60 and 37 respectively at stumps yesterday, adding 15 and 43 runs respectively to finish with innings total of 75 and 80 runs before Bishal Ningombam 28 and T Nganba 16 not took the first innings total to 386 and hand Manipur a 342-run lead.
Shiven (2/59), Ngurang Lana (2/31) and Ankit Kumar Singh (2/92) all picked two wickets in this innings.
In Arunachal Pradesh's second innings, Armaan Jain and Nabam Jenam added identical 24 runs before they collapsed at 83 as Manipur lads exerted a strong pressure on them by removing top orders early on.
After Rain bowled out Nabam Gania 8 for the first wicket in the 8th over, Danish got rid of Arunachal Pradesh skipper Kania for 4-ball 1 in the 4th delivery of the 9th over.
Danish also bowled out Ankit Kumar to end the innings and returned with the best figures of Danish 2/21 in 7.1 overs.
Y Achouba (2/8 in 4 overs) also enjoyed a two-wicket haul as Rain, Naesh, Kaiku and Robinson Sougaijam all chipped in with a wicket apiece.
It is the third win for Manipur in four matches having beaten Mizoram by 156 runs and thrashed Nagaland by 9 wickets.
Manipur will play Meghalaya in the next match from December 21 .
