PHAM, Yaiskul had a mixed outing in the finals of the 7th State Sub-Junior Open Hockey Tournament at Khuman Lampak Hockey Tournament when the under-14 side emerged champions while the same side's under-16 team suffered defeat at the hands of Hockey Union, Lairikyengbam Leikai.
In the under-14 title clash against COSMO, Wangkhei, H Pupunao scored both the goals for the yaiskul side finding the in the opponent board in the second and 34th minutes.
B Rabicha scored Cosmo's consolation goal in the 27th minute.
While the PHAM youngsters enjoyed their victory, their under-16 team-mates were hammered 5-2 by HU despite racing to a 2-0 lead around the 10th minute through Kh Rabikanta.
While M David narrowed the score margin for HU in the 15th, two goals - out of three in the match - within a span of three minutes from M Bronson saw the Lairikyengbam Leikai side surge ahead 3-2.Bronson's third came in the 28th minute after Ch Dayananda had extended the advantage in the 25th.The final matches and closing ceremony of the tournament organised by Manipur Hockey Association since December 17 was held with Hareshwar Goswami (MCS) and vice president of MHA Ng Munindro Singh as the chief guest and president respectively.
Chief coach of Indian women hockey team GS Bhangu, who was also in-charge of NS-NIS, Patiala as head coach along with treasurer of Imphal East District Hockey Association Laishram Mobi Singh graced the occasion as guests of honour.
GS Bhangu also presented Rs 1000 to best player of the tournament (U-14) Sh Nillakanta of PHAM.
In the under-16 group, Ksh Wangma also of PHAM was adjudged the best player.
