Ahead of 49th Hunger Marchers' Day which will be observed on August 27, awareness programme on the commemoration day has been organised by AMSU at Human Resource Development School today.
The awareness programme, participated by the school's students and staff members emphasised on the origin of the Hunger Marchers' Day and the struggle of people, who protested against the Indian administrators of that time.
It can be recalled that hundreds of lives were lost due to famine in Manipur in 1965.It was on August 27, 1965 when people came out and protested against the Indian administrators and demanded immediate relief.
Three students namely Nabakumar; Chaobhal; Pramodini and ARR driver Nilamani were killed in police firing.
To commemorate the sacrifices made by the trio for the cause of people and society at large, Hunger Marchers' Day is observed every year on August 27 .
