Imphal, June 18 2009:
The Indigenous Democratic Front (IDF) has appealed to the Minister of State for Rural Development, Agatha Sangma to open Hill Area Institute of Rural Development and Research centres in all the hill districts of Manipur at the earliest.
In a memorandum submitted to the MOS, Rural Development yesterday, the IDF pointed out that in the absence of self governing body at the village and intermediate level, specially in the hill districts, the link between both State and Central Governments to village ad intermediate (district) levels has been through the nodal agency like the DRDA/DC office which were often found ineffective in bringing a meaningful rural development.
Moreover, there is lack of transparency, information and accountability, it added.
