Imphal, June 18 2009:
The unavailability of PDS sugar to the public in adequate quantity on time was because of non-delivery of sugar to food supply depot at Dimapur from sugar mills, said Food Corporation of India (FCI) officials.
Explaining the reasons for the failure to distribute sugar to people under Public Distribution System during a meeting with Consumer Affairs and Food and Public Distribution Minister U Erabot on June 10, the FCI officials said that there has not been regular supply of sugar rakes from sugar mills based in Maharastra, UP, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu even as necessary indents were furnished on time.
