24 held with smuggled areca nuts

Imphal, October 28 2023:
Assam Rifles reportedly foiled a major cross border smuggling attempt on Saturday by seizing around 52.1 tonnes of areca nuts valued at approximately Rs 6.25 crore.
The smuggled areca nuts were found loaded in twelve Shaktiman trucks which have been seized at Phaikoh in Kamjong district and 24 individuals apprehended in connection with the case.
According to a PRO IGAR (S) release, the convoy was coming from international border towards the Indian side.
The seized contraband with the trucks along with the apprehend ed individuals who were drivers/co-drivers have been handed over to Forest Department, Kamjong, the PRO added.
