A combined team of Imphal Division Customs and the Assam Rifles raided E Molnom village and seized nearly 2000 kgs of contraband ganja from the possession of two villagers, said a press statement issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Customs.
The raid at the Ukhrul district village and falling under the jurisdiction of Litan police station was jointly conducted at around 1 pm today based on specific information.
While 43 compressed blocks of ganja weighing 985.450 kgs could be detected and recovered from the residence of one Johny Khongsai s/o Zilkhosei Khongsai the combined team seized another 940.550 kgs in 41 compressed blocks from the residence of Lunmang Lhanglum s/o Hemsat Lhanglum of the same village.
The owners of the said houses could not be placed under arrest as they had fled as the approach of the vehicles might have alerted them, informed the statement adding that investigation is on to apprehend the accused persons.
