Irom Sharmila Chanu, who has been on a fast for the last four years demanding the removal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from the State, made quite an impression on Professor BK Roy Burman, when the latter met her at the JN hospital today.
During the meeting, the hunger striker struck the noted social scientist with the lucidity and clarity of mind of what she wants and why she wants the AFSPA to go.
Earlier, Prof Roy also met the family members of Pebam Chittaranjan, who committed self immolation against the Act on August 15.Professor Roy is here to lend solidarity with the people in the backdrop of the intense demand to lift the Act.
Later Prof Roy also met Justice C Upendra, who is heading the Commission to probe the circumstances that led to the death of Th Manorama.
The Professor also met two representatives of the Apunba Lup today evening and held a lengthy discussion.
He also met the former members of the Social Policy Advisory Committee which he headed as the Chairman.
